Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi, has opened up about the true reason behind his success in the music industry over the years.

According to Mr. Music Man as he is popularly called, he would not be the household name in highlife music without his dreadlocks.

In an interview on Peace FM, Kojo Antwi explained that the inspiration to change his look began when he started out with a band that toured places with reggae music.

“My little research taught me that, Rastafarians were slaves who became Africans and also wanted to be identified as Africans, hence they served Africa as their god, that is how come you visit America and you see pastors who are Rastafarians, it has some spiritually in there, it is our culture,” he said.

When asked whether he will give up his hair, the music maestro stated emphatically no.

Kojo Antwi noted that his hair was now a part of him, further stating, “nothing will make me do away with my dread, I believe everyone has something that represents his/her strength and for me, mine is the rasta.”

Kojo recently surprised a loyal fan during an event at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, during the Christmas festivities.

The visibly excited fan was overjoyed when Kojo called out her name during the event, and gifted her with a lovely bundle of Kente cloth.

Kojo Antwi’s career has spanned decades, and he has a number of impressive accolades to his name.

The highlife musician, since his first album release in 1986 has toured several African countries and rocked numerous international stages with his lovely, soulful music.
