Local award-winning music group Black Motion were escorted off a British Airways flight following an alleged racially motivated incident on Monday.
Following the incident The duo took the Instagram writing: “We were embarrassed and and removed from business class [to economy] just because a white lady complained about her broken seat.”
Speaking to The Juice, the duo’s road manager Nicky Seema – who was also on board the flight explained: “We booked four tickets, two in economy and two in business class. Thabo and Bongani sat in business class. The air hostess asked them to move to economy, when a white women complained that her seat was broken and she needed to be accommodated.”
The group were booked on a 13:00 Cape Town to Johannesburg flight.
A frustrated Nicky went on to say:”If they did proper checks before passengers checked-in, then they would have been aware that the seats were broken. And would have booked those seats.”
According to Nicky, when asked why they were selected to move, the air hostess told them that their “tickets were cheaper than the passenger’s ticket.”
Following the disagreement an air hostess allegedly informed them that the captain did not feel safe to fly to the plane, and they were escorted off the plane by police officers.
“We are not terrorists,” he said.
He adds: “When the crew became aware of their status in the music industry they booked another flight.”
The Juice reached out to British Airways who said that they have been made aware of the incident.
Shaun Pozyn – Marketing, Loyalty and Customer Experience Head at British Airways – said: “We have been made aware of this incident. Comair and British Airways will not tolerate racism. We regard these allegations as very serious and they warrant thorough investigation. We will establish what happened and take whatever action is required.”
