In June, Kim Kardashian posted an adorable photo of her son buckled into a car seat in the forward position and social media users questioned her mothering abilities while criticizing her for endangering her child.
Kim has now replied the critics. In a new video shared on Thursday, Kim defended her decision to keep her 20-month-old son buckled in the forward position. She began the video by describing the situation for her fans, stating:
“So I took a photo of Saint and he was sitting forward and so they say for his age he should be rear facing.”
The mother-of-two then disclosed the reason for Saint’s car seat orientation, saying: “But what people didn’t know is that Saint is now the weight and the height requirement to sit forward facing. Saint actually weighs more than North if that is believable.”
Usually, it is required that children below 2 years are kept in rear-facing car seats. The American Academy of Pediatrics tells parents “to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age 2, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat.” California has even codified a requirement that children under two must use a rear-facing seat unless they are at least 40 inches tall and weigh at least 40 pounds.
Saint is less than two years and is expected to be buckled in a rear-facing position, hence the criticisms, but apparently, he’s tall enough and has just the right weight for the front-facing position his mother kept him in.
