Government officials in the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) tried jailing current New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Manso Nkwanta Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Albert Joseph Qualm as anti illegal mining crusader.

“I was hauled before the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in 2012 ostensibly to implicate me and throw me into jail for showing my commitment to fighting galamsey activities in the country “, the lawmaker alleged.

“After stopping Chinese nationals who were engaging in illegal mining in my constituency, police invited me to their their National Headquarters for interrogation. I realized the evil intent by the then IGP against me so I had to act smart”, Hon. Albert Joseph Qualm revealed.

“Realising their intent through the interrogation, I had to show them I knew what I was doing as somebody who has studied the county’s mining laws. I asked for documents permitting those Chinese to mine without following the due processes”, the Environmental Miner and Land Reclamation Expert stated.

Hon. Albert Joseph Qualm who was speaking on Kumasi-based Abuasua FM, stated that the previous administration refused to heed to his proposal submitted to the then government in fighting the galamsey.

The MP told the host of “Abusua Nkomko” Kwame Adinkra on Monday he has personally funded the fight against illegal mining in the Manso Nkwanta constituency and other parts of the country.

“Some of the illegal miners have tried bribing me to stop . …but they should know that I cannot be influenced in any way and will expose them if they persist”, the lawmaker and Chief Executive Officer of Prof. Qualm Publications threatened.
