Newmont to recall interdicted workers


saasdfasdfsdThe Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has directed Newmont Ghana Gold limited to recall 4 of its interdicted workers before 6:30pm yesterday.

This follows a meeting between the Minister Haruna Iddrisu , management and local union executives of Newmont Ghana together with the General Secretary of the Ghana Mine Workers Union of TUC yesterday.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Doris Yaa Yamoah, as part of the consensus reached, Newmont workers were to resume work as at yesterday.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Newmont Ghana Adiki Ayitevie said the strike at the Ahafo mine has caused “4 days of full production loss leading to significant revenue loss to the company”.

Meanwhile the General Secretary of the Ghana Mineworkers Union Prince Williams Ankrah has described as “a good start” the deal that has been brokered by the Ministry of Employment and Labor relations to get striking Newmont workers to return to work.
