Hot 97 radio DJ and rap game veteran Funkmaster Flex seems to have a serious bone to pick with Jay Z. The DJ has gone on numerous rants on-air over what seems to be him feeling disrespected by being requested to do an interview for Jay Z’s website Life + Times.
The interview was meant to be about his involvement in the Dipset reunion and Funkmaster felt this to be some underhanded work at play as he wasn’t allowed to play Dipset records at the 40/40 club, owned by Jay Z. This sparked Flex to open up about other times he felt disrespected by Jay Z, like when he dropped his ‘Magna Carter: Holy Grail’ album through an app deal with Samsung, which Funk claims was copied from his own app. You can listen to the rant here.
After that went viral, Jay Z tried reaching out to Funkmaster Flex through phone calls but the DJ wasn’t taking them, so he resorted to texting the DJ, which has resulted in another rant from Flex about Jay Z texting in caps to him. Listen to the follow-up rant here:
The twist in the story comes now with reports from MediaTakeOut.com that Jay Z and a group of businessmen, including NY Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, are in talks to acquire the Hot 97 radio station. Could Funkmaster Flex’s peeve be about this acquisition more than anything?
We are watching this story closely as it unfolds – seems there is a lot going on that hasn’t come to light…
